On Veteran's Day weekend 2021, I had the privilege of saying a few words to military veterans at the Elks Lodge in Camp Springs, memorializing Veteran's Day. There is no greater honor than service to your country and sacrifice for your fellow countrymen and women. To the tens of thousands of veterans in the state of Maryland and the millions of veterans American Worldwide, I sincerely thank you. You and your family's sacrifice help maintain the treasure of freedom and liberty.
The fragile yet brilliant concepts of democracy, independence, and liberty are predicated on selfless individuals like our American heroes who are willing to answer the call and give their all to defend them. There's no doubt that your personal commitment to the cause was grounded in honor and courage. And for that, we owe you a debt of gratitude.
I never served in the military, but instead, I served as a police officer serving the citizens of D.C., Maryland, and Virginia throughout my career. I know a little something about duty, honor, sacrifice, and courage. I had a family member who was shot in Vietnam in the late '60s while propelling from a helicopter. He came home a changed man. It is understood that in service, "all give some, but some give all." We must remember those internal and external injuries that every servicemember struggles with and ensure that their lives at home reflect our gratitude and the debt that we owe them.
Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.
Always Faithful.
Always Prepared.
